    The title at the site says these photos are from a school. So 
the layout of equipment may not have reflected an actual 
receiving station. The scope is hooked up (you can see the 
wires). Its possible the receiver and TT machines had nothing to 
do with each other. Some of the other pix on the site look posed, 
perhaps the photographer asked the WAVE to reach up and fiddle 
with the receiver of something of the sort. OTOH, there may be a 
TT converter out of the frame.
