It triggers the "answer-back" mechanism, which should cause it to auto-type some identifier. I have a video on this (and a subsequent video on making code blades) here:

If you have an answer back mechanism, receiving a colon character is likely problematic, as it will trigger the mechanism (maybe in combination with something else). I also have a video on disabling that mechanism without removing the stunt box.
