 I'd say it would be a regenerative repeater.

Did Teletype Corporation make any?  Don't know.

Did Teletype make a device that would be placed in a local loop, and provide a on/off signal to another loop, say for going to outside plant? So one would plug one side into the local loop with all of the accessories, then a pristine signal would be presented to another, separate loop current supply and then on out the door to the next town?
