[GreenKeys] Foam

Vibration absorption and/or sound damping material, I used 1/2" yoga mats in the past with great results. Porous and heavy enough (just right) to be satisfied in any way. Easy to cut and work with, easy to clean and super light in weight. And the good part: they are dirt cheap $5-7 each on sale. All you need is a sharp utility knife and your choice of adhesive. In many cases, you even don't need adhesive - precious cuts and you can wedge the material in place.
Try it, what do you have to loose.

Good question. Acoustical foam is a porous foam meant to
absorb air conducted sound. Another sort of foam is used on
mechanical parts, like the cases of typewriters, to damp
vibration. This is not porous but rather heavy. Often has
adhesive on it. The idea is that by damping the vibration of thin
panels they can not act as sound radiators. Acoustical absorbent,
either foam or fiberglass or old fashioned felted horse hair, is
not a very good dampener. The damping foam looks something like
really thick tar paper.
