Thanks to everyone who gave me tips on moving a 28ASR. I just got home with my new machine. I removed the typing unit, keyboard, base, typing reperforator, TD, answer-back unit, front panels, and bottom panel. It was relatively easy to hoist it up on its back into my SUV by me and my daughter. I think I’ll have to remove the dome and ESU to make it as light as possible before I try to get it up the stairs, but it looks like it will be very doable.
Also, thanks for the replies concerning the 60 wpm gearset. It turns out that my machine came with a bonus - 3-speed gearshift!!! Plus, 3 extra typeboxes and a bunch of spare gears, etc., complete set of manuals, 3 boxes of paper, and more tape than I’ll ever be able to use in my lifetime.
The machine was bought by the previous owner 11 years ago, tested, and put into storage. Next step is to give everything a good checkout & lube, but it is very clean.
There is one thing that I’m looking for, however. I’m in need of the typing unit glass window, p/n 160339. I know I can get one made easily enough, but, I’d rather have an original.
Thanks to everyone,
Bill
