[GreenKeys] 28 typing unit code bar shifting issue

I have this typing unit that has developed a symptom I can't figure out yet.
I first thought it was just related to LF not always working. The stunt box
LF function bars weren't always moving so I took out the stunt box and
cleaned all that area up so it all moved freely (this is yet another
mousketeered 28KSR). No change.
Then I did what I should have done earlier which was start at the
beginning. The selector push levers look like they are selecting OK. The
transfer levers look they are moving OK.
But....
The no 1 and 2 code bar shift bars aren't always shifting left (marking)
following a character that shifts them right (spacing). So, naturally, the
code bar isn't getting shifted and the LF function bar isn't activated.
This happens when LF or E follows CR for example. If I issue a string of
Es, eventually the code bar will shift and Es will start printing.
Now what it looks like is that the code bar shift bar gets pushed to the
rear by the transfer lever but somehow the left-moving code bar shift lever
doesn't engage and shift it. So the shift bar is moved to the rear
(marking), but not shifted.
A thorough cleaning and relubing of this area produced no improvement.I
hypothesized that the shift bar is moved to the rear OK, but maybe too late
for the shift lever to grab it. But how could that be? But shouldn't the
No. 1 and 2 shift bars be the first to move because their selector push
levers move first?
Or maybe the shift bar isn't getting moved far enough to the rear for the
shift lever to engage it..
Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
Nick
