Or look into FLDIGI - this program (free) will decode AFSK signals you get in your computer (or feed to it via the microphone connector, I would guess) and display the text.  I am not sure if it will send a signal to the serial port or not.

This thing also does a fine job of many other digital modes used by hams, and seems to have logging and other add-ons for a variety of uses such as field day, DX cluster monitoring and so on.
