On your Puzzle Solved page you have a picture of a Gardner
tape sender. These were advertised in QST for years around the
1940s and 1950s along with the ever popular Instructograph. For
some reason I thought they dated from the 1930s like the
Instructograph but the patent was issued in 1940. I have two
Instructographs with tapes and have seen many others but have
never seen a Gardner machine. They were perhaps not so popular
and were certainly made for a shorter period of time. Both of my
Instructographs have wind-up phonograph motors although they
evidently also made them with electric motors. The Gardner
machine is electric. I wonder if anyone on the GK list has one. I
also found an ad from Gardner for a different keyer. The one on
your site is a Type S, this one is advertised as a Type A. The ad
says it comes with ten rolls of tape but the illustration does
not make the mechanism at all clear. Ad is in QST for Sept 1945,
p.98 on the left bottom. I never noticed this ad before, mostly
its the S version that they advertised.
