Brooke,

Thanks for the URL - I thought that there must be more information on 
the Broad Tape printer somewhere. That mechanism looks just like the one 
we have at the AWA Museum.

I have some more information on the "Dow Jones Instant News Ticker" if 
you want it for your site. (the " let me know " link on your page 
doesn't work).  I have a pdf of a Dow Jones brochure that describes the 
system and also a letter from Dow Jones advising a subscriber that the 
system is ending and offering to sell the printer for $1.00 to the 
subscriber. Also more printouts.

Concerning patents, John Burry  had a lot of patents for similar 
mechanisms from 1896-1906.
