Yeah, I think you are right - was reading and flying over an article about those machines several months ago but don't remember all the details.
So, the question is: what kind of machines were used and more importantly, what kind of system/code - baudot? .... I doubt that, but not sure. Have to find that online article again.

Hard to tell from the picture, but I think that is not a ticker-tape
ticker but rather what was called a bulletin printer. Which is not a
ticker-tape printer but one that prints on a page, but the paper is
only about 6 inches wide.
