Look how clean that teletype repair area is!
I was always a but worried about simple green and what it does to the felts. Can you get enough of it out so that they take up oil again?
What about the main shaft. It has felt all throughout the inside of it to distribute oil. I would not think getting simple green inside the shaft would be too good long term, and I’m not sure how one would dry it out.

>>> Hello! I have a new email account and a new toy to play with..... a Model 26 teletype. From what I can tell the machine is intact but in need of a lot of cleaning. With help from Zach I was able to understand how to take the typing unit off the keyboard, now I need to know if I can just put the entire keyboard in a solution of cleaner to soak for awhile.... what to protect? I would guess with the typing unit the selector magnets would be the only thing needing protection but will hold off all of these actions until I hear from some of you guys as to how to proceed. Thanks for the help and I will post my progress as I attempt to get this old girl up and running again!
