Hi John:
With your thumb and forefinger move the inner race.
If it does not move you have a job ahead of you.
If it does in fact move, does it move evenly and without noise or "grabbing"?
If it does not, a good cleaning with a solvent of your choice and a toothbrush should do the trick and then pack with grease.
(Make sure you use your XYL's toothbrush.)
If it moves freely and without any problems listed above, just pack some grease in the bearing.

I can see grease in the bearings, and it doesn't look hard or old.  But I don't want to start running it hard and then have a problem.  (hard being a few hours a day?)
Bank in the last century the motor bench guy used to flush the bearings with a solvent (kerosene?) and then repack them with fresh grease.  But this would have been after many hours of use or maybe even years for 25-250 HP motors.
Should i go to that extreme?  Or maybe a drop or two of oil to loosen things up?
