it used 3/4" like the other glass-domed tickers. So yes it was a little hard to get the 11/16 to work in it.
the 6 bit code was not common to tickers prior to this. Tickers used a different signalling mechanism. I believe, however, that 6-bit was more common on typesetting equipment of that era (or perhaps later). I recall Jack telling me this unit shared some similarities to the M26 teletype.
