[GreenKeys] Teletype 33 ASR = Teleprint 390 Trouble

Dear all!


This ist my first post to the Greenkeys mailing list, so let me please
introduce myself. I am Stephan

from Germany and using the i-telex network since a year with a Siemens
T100 machine and very interested

in vintage computing stuff. Few days ago I picked up a Teleprint 390
machine which is based on a Teletype 33 which

I intend to connect to the i-telex system as well.


After some electrical repairs, the machine seems to work with some
flaws. Maybe you can help me out with some questions...


1.) the lid from the papertape reader always jumps to open position
after reading of a few chars

2.) When pressing the space bar, the machine prints a comma ","

3.) One large power resistor on one of the boards inside the machine
"R20" get extremely hot and smells after a minute or so in operation

4.) Should I oil the machine? If yes, which oil is recommended?

5.) Is there any source for new typing cylinders? The previous owner
destroyed it by ignoring the defective rubber plating on the hammer....
