To those who might be interested about teleprinter/teletype activities in
Germany:
Last weekend we participated again at the Hannover Makerfaire. The Hannover
Makerfaire was the first Makerfaire in Germany and the i-Telex Group has
been participating there since its first time in 2013. Normally about
20,000 visitors are counted.
This year we displayed our i-Telex system, ITTY teletype service, printing
the Europe channel
from Paul in Colorado and as a special service "i-Telex Telegram Service".
As machines for one of the i-Telex systems we used:
- Siemens T37 in acrylic glas case (we call this machine "snow white" :-) )
- Siemens T100S in mk I case
- Siemens T1000
- Lorenz Lo133
For ITTY we used a SEL/Lorenz Lo2000 receive only with punch.
This machine came from German embassy service and is still labled to be
used formerly
at the Athens/Greece embassy....
The Lo2000 is a semi electronic machine with a very unique type carrousel
printing
technology.
For the telegram service we used an original Siemens T68d telegram service
strip printer for 9.5mm wide strip paper.
This year we used two separate i-Telex systems to have one always free for
the telegram service.
Connection to the internet was made by a tiny router and 3G mobile internet
stick.
The telegram service is run by our young member Finn, who is just 15 years
old and
very keen on this topic. We built him a "real" telegraph office.
He also got an original postal service cap and he wore matching blue
colored clothes. :-)
For a small fee of 4 € you could send a telegram, of course original
transmitted via
the i-Telex netowrk to a distant station, also with a strip printer. The
receiving
station glued the received telegrams onto a old style telegram form and put
them in
an old style envelope with a "customized" i-Telex stamp. Then he posts them
by
normal postal service to the receiver of the message.
In Germany it is possble to get your own customized official stamps.
For our i-Telex telegram service we made stamps with a picture of a Siemens
T68d
telegram strip printer on it, of course. ;-) The model of machine this
telegram was sent with...
You can imagine that this service has been absolutely "crazy" for most of
the visitors and at the end "telegraphist" Finn sent over 50 telegrams to
receivers in Germany and neigbour countries. :-)
He almost has not been able to leave the both for more than eating and
visiting the bathrooms.... :-)
Again it was great fun and addidtionally to the success of the i-Telex
telegram service we had nice talks with visitors and we even might get some
new members who already have a
teleprinter at home and now know what to do with it "useful" or looking
for a machine to join the network after they got hold of one.
Beside of that it was a big social i-Telex member meeting. Members from all
over northern and
western part of Germany visited us to meet and talk to others they only
knew from chatting
by i-Telex before.
I hope you will enjoy the photos:
