[GreenKeys] Teletypes and Text messages

Does it have to be on an actual phone? I ask because there are much easier
ways to do this. I'd assume you've already heard of these, but I'll mention
it anyway. For example, I'm using a service called Bandwidth to pay
something like 35 cents a month for a fully functional phone number (can
send and receive text messages and phone calls), but instead of driving it
from a phone I can hook into their system with any old computer (I use a
Raspberry Pi) using software I've built or software others have built; then
the software parses the output and pushes it to the teletype, or vice
versa. Doing this, I'm able to receive and send text messages using any of
my KSR machines. If I'm in a location that I can't easily get internet to
the Raspberry Pi, I just tether my phone to the Pi and utilize its cellular
connection for internet.

There are other services like this such as Twilio. I chose Bandwidth
because I liked their API and their prices. Aside from 35 cents a month for
the phone number, it's free for inbound messages and half a cent per
outbound message. Dirt cheap.

If you're not interested in this method and are actually set on
sending/receiving from an actual phone, I'm sure you could-- it would just
be much more complicated. Just a month or so ago someone on this list had
mentioned actually writing up some code to use an Android phone as a serial
I/O device to hopefully do more or less what you're thinking. I can think
of a few other technical possibilities, but I don't know exactly what it
would entail-- sorry.
