Brian,

the i-Telex "TW39 Special" board has got a fully operational teleprinter on
board.
The board consists out of two ports.

The upper port is a standard TW39 port to connect a real Telex machine by
loop current.
The lower section of the board is a fully operational teleprinter
emulation. It works stand alone
without a PC or terminal permantently connected. Incoming message to your
system are
stored like in an answering machine. Once you connect a terminal program
you can either
directly use it as a teleprinter and chat or just for reading stored
messages.
For more modern PCs it is possible to use the serial port with a cheap USB
converter.
The standard firmware uses 9600 8N1 hardware handshake terminal connection.
We also have a modified 110 baud firmware version for connecting model
33ASR machines.
Mike from New Jersey uses it successfully.
Both ports operate totally independed and you can even send messages
locally between
the two (or more...) ports or "go" outside by dialing 0 and connect other
i-Telex members around
the world.
I am sure Mike from NJ will gladly answer any questions for operating it
"American style". :-)
He uses exactly the same set-up with a model 32ASR Telex connected to the
upper TW39
and a model 33ASR as a terminal connected to the bottom serial port of the
board.
