JJ Short Associates will strip the old rubber off of platens and add new
rubber at the correct thickness:

Note that I have never sent in a teletype platen for resurfacing by JJ
Short-- just typewriter platens. However, they do an absolutely stellar job
with platens and rollers of various sizes and types. They likely haven't
serviced an M14 platen before, but I'm sure they'd be able to do it. They
might ask for original specifications to try and get the thickness just
right-- that's probably available in one of the various manuals published
in days of yore or could be obtained from some kind soul here.

I also highly recommend Paul at RTTY Electronics. He is a boon to this
eclectic group and has helped me get parts that would have otherwise been
extremely difficult to impossible to find otherwise.
