Further to all that, the Dovetron came pretty late in the evolution of
amateur RTTY. Most of the Dovetron demodulators we have seen appear to
fit a pattern that also applies to ST-8000, Frederick 1280 and Electrocom
440 models. Which is to say tunable mark and space frequencies, and some
other things that suggest it was not indended for traditional
single-channel RTTY. And that the major customer was certainly
non-amateur. Maybe for monitoring channels of a voice-frequency carrier
telegraph system. So I'd say that transmitting with such a device is not
something you could plop down in a traditional amateur station.
I think the RTTY magazine, later RTTY Journal, is online somewhere and
if you look at the issues from the 1960s and earlier you'll see some of
the station control arrangements that were used back then.
