[GreenKeys] Non print modification

I wrote a program in the 9th grade (mid 70’s) to punch banner text on the 33’s paper tape and just let it print gibberish too.
More recently I recreated it from scratch in PDP-8 assembly language.
It’s fun to have for us “big kids” too!

BTW “don’t attempt this” varies considerably with the mechanical skill and comfort level of the attempter, of course. Wayne always warns people not to take the keyboard apart and it IS full of little springy things... But I’ve had several disassembled and reassembled, and don’t find it terribly difficult. Just a bit tedious if my third hand gets tired...

Nothing wrong with Blunt. I actually like it and am glad we have a group that can express opinions like that. I’m still in data gathering mode to find out what CAN and HAS been done 😊

Based on what I have read so far, the automatic enable of the paper tape seems to be readily doable with the removal of two pins. That leaves the print function and as one person suggested, having it print gibberish as the tape comes out won’t be that awful. At the end of the day, my goal is to make for a fun outreach for the kids and keep them excited about technology.

I apologize for my blunt language earlier.

I have read the procedure for installing the Non-Print option. It sounds like a bear of a job. If you want to undertake it you will likely have to remove the printer. Attached is a procedure for that. I believe you have to have a tape punch with the style of the CTRL function, not a manual but I could be wrong about that.

I just would not recommend doing the Non-Print option work.

73 and best regards,

Wayne
