Indeed you are exactly along the same lines of what I intend to do (nice touch with the lower case letters!). Clearly someone accomplished the print suppression from a computer control in the past… I don’t mind building or manufacturing something to make it happen, that’s what milling machines and 3D printers are for!

There is no built-in "print suppression" switch or control code, but there is a print suppression codebar in the mechanism, and by preventing it from moving, you can effectively stop the typewheel from printing. I hope others will chime in with more details of how to do this.
Here's some python code to print letters on tape, with a hard-coded font
https://github.com/hughpyle/ASR33/blob/master/bin/tape
and an example of the result,

I think short strips of tape make nice bookmarks ;)

All,
Thanks to Mikes board and Wayne’s magic work, my Mod 33 ASR is successfully talking to a computer. I’m trying to do an outreach with it and one ideal thing is to punch out kids names on the papertape. That being said, it isn’t clear that there is a control to tell it not to print while punching or am I missing something simple?
Any and all suggestions/insight are welcome.
