[GreenKeys] Computer Control of an ASR Mod33 Teletype Punch

I've got Mike Douglas' Teletype RS-232 adapter
(http://deramp.com/tty_adapter.html) connected to a prolific USB-to-Serial
Comm Port
(https://www.amazon.com/USB-Serial-Adapter-Prolific-Retention/dp/B000HVHDJ8)
. I can quite successfully send and receive from it using PUTTY (7M2).
Based on that I can easily build an application to talk to the printer, but
I've not yet seen how I can tell it to ONLY talk to the punch. Thinking
back to my high school days when we had 5 teletypes connected to an
Interdata 7/16, I know that we were regularly punching out big letters on
the papertape without printing on the printer. That's what I would like to
be able to recreate.

Good news, John!

For the benefit of the rest of us who are trying to interface ASR-33's to
computers, could you give us a quick summary/recap of what interface
hardware and software you're using?

I've got a Tripp-Lite model USA-19HS RS-232 to USB interface connected to a
Telebyte Model 65A 20MA current loop to RS-232 interface and I can send
characters from my notebook PC to my KSR-33 just fine (except I haven't been
able to generate Line Feeds yet), but when sending characters from the
Teletype back to my PC, while some are received successfully, others get
garbled. The software on the PC that I have been using for the interface is
the Putty application with 8 data bits, 2 stop bits and no parity.

Thanks for any suggestions any Greenkeyers may have.

Bob

All,

Thanks to Mikes board and Wayne's magic work, my Mod 33 ASR is
successfully talking to a computer. I'm trying to do an outreach with it
and one ideal thing is to punch out kids names on the papertape. That being
said, it isn't clear that there is a control to tell it not to print while
punching or am I missing something simple?

Any and all suggestions/insight are welcome.
