[GreenKeys] ASR 33 question - stop bits?

Hi Wayne -
I remember your post.
Avoiding the PC jargon, what I'm finding is my unit needs *3* stop bits (prints perfectly), and occasionally produces errors with only two. I haven't tried one, and I imagine the machine would produce even more errors at that setting. My machine has an hour meter on it, and it has about 750 hours on the clock, so, I don't think it's worn out (IIRC you can reasonably expect 1500 hours). I'm certainly no 33 tech, but I did solve a number of problems with this machine by reading the manuals and significant help from the group. I suppose I'll go searching the manuals - I was being lazy by posting to the group... I'll concentrate on whatever I can find about the selector in the manuals.
Thanks,
Keith

Keith,
I just recently sent a post to GK about exactly what you are asking.
I dont understand the computer settings you refer to, but here is what I have found.
Some 33's will print perfectly with only one stop bit. Others will need 2 stop bits. Its related to the conditions of the selector clutch area. Wear on the drum and shoes and the fine tuning of the selector area.
Unless you are a 33 tech you probably should just continue using 2 stop bits.
Most 33's I restore can print well on 1 stop bit but sometimes no matter what I do it needs 2. When sending the 33 always has 2 stop bits due to the distributor faceplate.
