[GreenKeys] Leaving ASR-33 powered on...?

I have to agree with Wayne. My ASR33 was a rescue and was apparently used at
an airline. Most likely was turned on at the time. The SMD card in my
machine has most of the copper clad heated to the point of it falling off. I
have had to replace some of it with wire soldered to the parts. I always
pull the plug when my 33 is idle.

Andy,

When these 32/33's were used commercially in Telex and TWX application they
were left on 24 hours a day.

Now they are in your home so I dont recommend leaving either a Telex or
computer machine on unattended as the electronics are on even when the
machine is in OFF position. The SMD card has a tendency to run warm or
almost hot and 24 hour operation will shorten the life of the card. Also,
there is a slight chance of fire I suppose.

The I-Telex guys may leave a 32 on 24 hours but there is less heat in the
Telex SMD card. Its the 33's that heat up more.

Wayne
