Sounds like you've got a geiger counter in there. Get that geiger counter
out, and you should be good.

Seriously:

If you're hoping to have someone else repair it, Paul Cembura (AKA Mr.
RTTY) offers motor overhaul services, or you can order a refurbished motor
from him. Contact info available here:
http://www.johnwhitney.com/misc/paul-rtty.htm. I've ordered a bunch of
parts from him, and he's fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable, and he's
really nice about offering advice of how to handle certain problems.
Someday I want to tour his warehouse.

If you're looking to DIY, I'm less help. I tried taking apart one of my
unhappy motors and ended up not doing anything with it and just put it back
together. I suppose since it was just a spare, I didn't have any real drive
to fix it and focused more on my full M15 and M19 instead. My motor problem
was definitely different than yours, too.

Good idea-- makeshift stethoscope. I wouldn't have thought of that, but
I'll stow that nugget of wisdom away for when I'll inevitably need it.
