Yeah, now I see what's going on. In the quiescent state, the tube is biased
fully 'on' but it only conducts minimally through the 100K pot load. One it
begins to conduct current, the bias begins to change but in a non-linear
fashion. The tube is intentionally being operated in a non-linear way such
that it remains more fully 'on' until the current reaches a certain set
point at which it is held in equilibrium by the bias scheme.
