Actually, the 32/33 selector magnet is driven at 24VDC with 500 ma. of current by the
selector magnet driver (SMD) card. Depending on the SMD card used, the input signal can be 20 or
60 ma. at a nominal 30 VDC or 130 VDC.
The Black Box 232-CL is rated to support 20 ma. at 30 VDC to drive a 33’s SMD card.
Depending on how the 232-CL is optioned, it can supply the current loop or key an external
current loop. The four leads are: 2 for the keyboard and 2 to drive the SMD.

Model 33 have a selector magnet driver - a circuit that will deliver the 60ma current to the selector magnet based on a lower voltage 20ma or 60ma current input. You do not drive the selector magnet directly, unlike on, for example, the typical model 15 where it requires higher voltage and energy than this board could deliver.
Carl
Jerry,
'sorry for the dumb question, but what is a selector magnet driver?
Does this mean that there's additional circuitry needed between the 4
current loop wires of this box and the typical plain vanilla ASR-33?
Thanks,
Bob
