Indeed.  I learned the nomenclature backwards, courtesy of DEC circa 1972.  Took more than 40 years to set me straight :->.

Blame it on DEC - they evidently started in 1963 offering a KSR-28 (and later an ASR-33)

You can add the use of 73s instead of 73 in the amateur
community to the list.
