When I got my first TTY in 1962 (Model 26) I relied on the CQ Magazine RTTY
column
written by Byron, W2JTP (SK), and his "New RTTY Handbook". Slightly later,
the "Surplus
Sidelights" column in CQ, written by Gordon Elliot White, covered a lot of
TTY
equipment. Gordon helped me to get my first Model 28 together. Several other
RTTY-related handbooks came out in that timeframe, especially a very
nice one published by the Radio Society of Great Britain. Even QST magazine
reluctantly started to publish RTTY-related articles, mostly thanks to
Irv Hoff, W6FFC (SK).
I found enough information to build multiple RTTY converters, tuning scopes,
hook up my transmitter (DX40!), and get on RTTY. I even bought parts
directly from
Teletype Corporation.

It would be just like when I started around 1972.
Finding information anywhere was "Good luck."
Parts? "Don't make me laugh."
