This might not be the "final report" on this particular machine but I
thought I'd let everyone know that I got it printing properly. The thing
is, I'm not sure how I did it. Last night I removed the type basket
again to check to see if anything was amiss and to make sure I got
everything lined up correctly when I re-installed the typing unit. This
morning I finished re-connecting the typing basket. I fired up the
machine on ITTY. It still printed garbage. I tried playing with the
rangefinder a little more but this didn't help. I kept looking for
anything that seemed out of place (loose or missing springs, etc.) but
couldn't see anything. I do remember taking my finger and holding up
the 6th vane/code bar while the machine ran. It seemed to be at that
point that the machine started printing more intelligibly. Then I
fiddled with the rangefinder some more and got pretty consistent
results. I am wondering if I might have gotten oil on the magnets or
too much oil/grease in spots and the more the machine ran the more it
worked itself out. For awhile it was doing a few things like printing
"I" instead of "P", dropping "H", and a few other things like that but
at the moment it seems to be printing 100%. At times I wonder if my
Internet connection might be playing a role.
In any event, the worst part appears to be over; now I need to trace out
the wiring to get the keyboard and punch connected into the loop. I
took a short video on my phone that I will try to attach if this will go
to the list. As always, I really appreciate the help, and especially
patience, from list members.
