I guess I am in the "one step forward; two steps back" mode.  I used a 
soldering iron to heat the stuck ribbon spindle and eventually got it 
softened enough I could turn it well by hand although it might not be 
quite as "free" as the other one.  I went ahead and lubed all the 
obvious spots on the typing basket and base and put everything back 
together.  I hooked it up to ITTY and I'm back to printing mostly 
gibberish.  I've tried adjusting the rangefinder without success.  Does 
the machine just need some time to go through its motions and settle 
down after all the "work" I've done to it?  I'm not sure if I could have 
knocked a spring loose or something like that.
