Unfortunately that won’t do anything… might cause more problems than help (might torque and snap the mechanisms leading to it). Your best route is to try to get the part that holds the spindle out of the nut (it’s more like a nut cup, if I’m thinking of the same thing you’re talking about). Get ready for some fun ;p (sorry ;o )~

I removed the type basket last night, soaked it in Simple Green for a couple of hours, washed it off, dried it off, sprayed it down with penetrant and let it sit overnight. The left-hand ribbon drive spindle (as you are looking at the machine from the front) now works freely when the feed mechanism is not engaged on it. The right-hand side is stuck hard. I have sprayed it with penetrant, doused it with regular liquid penetrating oil, sprayed it with PB Blaster, and poured 20wt oil on it but so far it refuses to budge. There is a tiny amount of play in the vertical drive shaft so my guess is that it is OK but the problem lies in the spindle on which the ribbon sits. I suppose I could try turning the nut in the ribbon cradle (??).
