Nick,

Good grief…what a glutton for punishment! The Model 40 was just about

Teletype’s worst product. I had a lot of experience with them at Ma Bell

(even though they were short-lived).

Good luck finding a printer that has a good type belt!!!

Jack K2TTY

Subject: [GreenKeys] WTD - Model 40 stuff - I can't believe I am doing this

I really truly can't believe I am allowing myself to wander down this path.....

But the horrible truth is that I have just acquired a M40 controller chassis (40C437/AEL/107) and it is chock full of PC boards. See the bottom of this page -

http://www.navy-radio.com/tty-m40.htm

So now I think I need something for these nice pretty PC boards to do -

This controller is evidently for a TEMPEST 40/8B II KDP set with cassette drives, so I am guessing it has electronics for the display, keyboard, and printer. I understand the self-destructing type chains make having a working printer impossible, but I am wondering if it is possible to hook up a monitor/keyboard to this thing.

I am looking for Teletype Model 40 manuals 559, 560, 561, and/or Wiring Diagram Package WDP0592

I have a couple of cassette drives on the shelf, so I'd like to find a M40 display and keyboard to play with too. And even a M40 printer just so I could see how one is supposed to work. As usual, I do not charge much for hauling away your surplus Teletype gear - Heck, sometimes I'm even willing to pay $$, trade some stuff, pay for shipping, etc.

Navy content? - you betcha! Take a look at the top of that page -

Cheers,

Nick England K4NYW
