[GreenKeys] Model 19 - Austin Texas...

I’ve also sent a message to the seller letting him know he has created quite a stir here on the GreenKeys list and that a trip to Austin may soon be in the works.

And as an aside, right in the middle of all our chatter today I got an email from another ham in Crawford, TX that was referred to me by a local acquaintance that I might be able to help him get a recently restored Model 19 working in his shack. So I may be making 2 port of calls in TX in the near future.

My wife says she’s ready for a road trip and we need to go get it even though we’re running out of room here. Is that not a great wife?!!! Jack, I think you remember Puddin.

Waiting on the response from seller here in Stone Mountain with the truck and trailer just about gassed up and ready to go.

And Virgil, what if I was able to drop a M28 ASR off at your place. I’m not even sure what it might need to get it restored. Send me the name of the town in TX where you live.

I’ve written the seller to ask if modification was done for RTTY. I’ll let everyone know when he responds.

Interesting that the seller said it was last used for QSOs. QSOs over telex, or was it converted to RTTY? Might be worth checking.

I wish I had space. Like the rest of you, that’s a problem right now...

Hi all!

This fine example of a Model 19 Teletype set

as seen the on the Ebay listing is an exceptionally

rare version...

This is the Western Union Telex version,

Model 19, rarely seen...

On close examination of the main cover,

one can see the answerback (Here-is)

mech visible thru a round hole in a lift

up door...

This looks "Factory", and was probably

a special build for Western Union

by Teletype Corp'n...

This is the first Model 19 Telex version

I have ever seen...

I hope someone on Green keys can retrieve

this very rare example...

Even the table, is a "Telex" version of the standard

offering used on the 19 set...

The modification of the kbd itself, is difficult

enough for the removable version (KSR) kbd,

the 19 style keyboard wud be much harder

to install the ansback assembly...

I have done some research on the M15 keyboards

W.U. used for Telex service, they seemed to

favour one version to use over the others...

I was not able to find info whether

or not Teletype Corp'n built these modfified

kbd's for W.U.

There doesn't appear to be any info available

to confirm this...

Apparently, Western Union modified the kbd's

and typing units in their own shops...

This machine is an amazing find, and very unlikely

another will ever turn up...

I really hope it can find a new home with

someone on the list...

Cheers!

Ken
