Just a quick shout out to the group.
Yesterday Nick, N0NCQ, and I demonstrated some of our gear at a local yearly
gathering called TechFest presented by the Gwinnett Amateur Radio Society.
(Gwinnett County is a Metro Atlanta county NE of the city)
Both Nick and I had a crowd at our displays during the entire event. I was
displaying my Model 28 KSR with my "Marriage of Old and New Technology - The
Original Text Machine" program. Thanks to John Nagle and his excellent
work with the software he has written that I was running on a Raspberry Pi
along with John's newest TTYLoopDriver device that runs completely off of a
USB port to drive the TTY. No external loop supply needed. And John, it
worked like a champ, not one hiccup!
Nick displayed some older equipment including his "Iron Horse," a 2B strip
printer, and a 15/19 era TD. Seems like he had one more piece of Heavy
Metal equipment, but since I was so snowed with folks at my display I never
even had time to visit with him even though we were right next to each
other.
The youngsters were the most amazed since most have never seen real
mechanical equipment, but the adults were for the most part equally amazed
that we could tie these technologies together with each other to demonstrate
something that all age groups could relate to. And of course we had plenty
of "Oh, I worked with these beasts back in the day." comments and war
stories as well.
I was so busy that I never managed to get any photos. But if I can get a
couple from some attendees, I'll try to post them.
