There is a “Print/No Print” mechanism for the 33, but I’ve have never been able to find one.

As a reasonable compromise, you can keep the print suppression bar from rising which has the effect of preventing the printhead from striking the platen. I do this and remove the paper when punching a long binary tape. I have a tractor feed unit so form feed characters that randomly appears in the binary data caused lots of paper to feed. The print head still moves, and it will still often remain against the right margin, but it’s not actually hitting the ribbon/paper/platen.
