I have one of those too.  It's  a neat device.  No, it doesn't qualify 
under the Heavy Metal overlay.  I used it to transmit with an ICOM 
IC-761 and it worked well.  I need to check for voltage on the FSK pin 
of my FT-2000D to see if it will work with it or which configuration 
will work.
