Hello Russ,

I know such racks. As I recall Heinz from Horsten has got one of those
but not functional I assume.
But similar functionality has Fred implemented into the i-Telex "Messgerät"
chip/software that you can access under the extension numbers 81 to 83.
Depending on the number you can access, a test transmitter transmitting
RYRYs
with different speeds and distortions and also a test receiver to test your
teleprinter's transmitter. You dial up to it type something and you will
receive
a distortion measurement of each transmitted character.
Also a "visible punch" is implemented. You dial up to it and type a word,
e.g. name and after a 10 seconds pause it will respond with human readable
characters to punch out. This is always big fun for kids at shows.

Of course, such electronic "toys" are no replacement for an original
relay rack. ;-)
