Gadzooks... Sounds like when I was into packet radio[*] some years back.
Totally new mode, and the ignorant thought it was some secret comms or
other because they couldn't decode it, so they jammed it. When it got its
own sub-band, a BBS etc was still jammed because it was on someone's
private frequency (and they were there first, so they owned it).
Sound familiar?

Got my licence in 1983 (I know, I'm only a baby here, despite now being
65) and being a programmer I got right into (glass) RTTY and had fun. I
then confess to deserting to packet radio when it was introduced, but
apart from some TCP/IP activity it's still pretty much FidoNet over radio,
so I gave it up. So here I am, kibitzing on RTTY until I get some RF gear
again (mostly lost in a house move - long story).
