Hi gang:
I think we are missing the idea behind the overstrike (and regular non-overstrike) pix on Autostart.
The overstrike was my way of getting people to use their HAL or Dovetron whatever, TUs, TDs ROTRs, printers - be it a 26, 28, 32 Etc and what ever other manufacturer of oil spitting, ozone smelling and warm chunk of iron or aluminum spewing 11/16" tape and 8.5" paper all over the floor.
Back before the internet WE/YOU were the internet! And this is how you communicated. There was no .txt, .pdf, mp4, or other recording devices exceptthe miles of colored tape rolled up in boxes for future use.
Since there is practically NO TTY on the air now - save for the up coming GKN QSO, and the contesters - ITTY, both ITTY, Auto and the Europe channel were supposed to fill in the gap to exercise the machines that were stored and rusting away in the basement or garage.
Overstrike on a glass tube?? Blasphemy!! If Bill Gates didn't want it - to bad.The same with a bell...how would you play the Christmas tape with no bell on a computer??
There is a satisfaction of the anticipation seen something being "born" at 60 WPM instead if a nano second on a computer. I think it is a mirror of today's society of everything NOW. And to quote someone who recently e-mailed me: Part of the experience is to receive it live! (Thank you)
And a big 'tip 'o the hat' to George Hutchison and Bill Bytheway!!! For without them there would be no ITTY at all. And thanks to Paul Heller for picking up the torch and continuing with ITTY.
And of course there is Bill Buzzbe who came up with Heavy Metal (Came out in 2001). That I was weaned on.
Has it really been that long?? LOL
While thanking people, I want to thank YOU! The people that listen and print ITTY.
And to the person who started it all for me - Jack K2TTY Hart (SK) who was my "Elmer" in getting my Ham ticket.
Sorry for the rant. Back to:
