Well, certainly historic for me. Even though I got my Novice license in
1961, I have never tried RTTY before.

Russ (WA3FRP) and I (K4NYW) had a very nice long chat on 40 meters today.
Both of us were using model 28ASR teletypes hooked up to vintage Navy
transmitters. Russ was using his AN/FRT-24 and I was running my recently
restored AN/FRT-70. That's a total of about 140 vacuum tubes and over 3000
lbs of transmitting equipment - add in the 28ASRs, Russ's R-390A receiver,
and other gear and we must have been in the 2 ton heavyweight class!

I have a lot to learn about operating, remembering to hit LF, LTRS, and
FIGS at the right time, etc. but it was great fun! We were also joined by
Jerry KA0VEL who was running more modern gear, but he got a kick out of the
M28 operation.

This was only my 2nd RTTY QSO - the other was kind of accidental while I
was testing the transmitter a few days ago - and that was the other
fellow's first RTTY contact in 20 years so he was delighted to hear a M28
on the air too.

So, if my antenna doesn't fall down and the transmitter doesn't catch fire
I think I'll be on the air for Green Keys Night. Well, Green Keys Day after
I recover from the champagne.

Many thanks to all the kind folks here who have given me so much help -
Man, this Teletype gear is amazing.....and addictive.
