[GreenKeys] Odd 15 Printer

While we're on the topic of unusual items, I came across this odd Model 15
typing unit on a nationwide Craigslist search:
https://oneonta.craigslist.org/atq/d/antique-teletype-corp/6744888694.html
There are two things that immediately stand out to me as being odd, but
maybe I just haven't been around the block enough:
- There appears to be some kind of flywheel-type device attached to
where the platen crank usually is
- There is some kind of cylinder attached near the right ribbon spool.
I've never seen anything like these attachments even in photos, so I'm very
curious. Did someone get sick of his platen cranks walking off and attached
a ridiculously large replacement so nobody would be tempted anymore, sort
of how restaurants and banks sometimes tape spoons or flowers to their
pens? Or was this just a less common but factory-produced attachment for
easy paper advancement?
