Is there a motor somewhere?  I didn't see one.  So what powers the moving
parts?

If you have the means for searching patent records I guess you could look
for telewriter as a word in the title.

If you could get the motor running you could see what kinds of patterns
come out as you type on the keyboard.  One possibility seems like a
Hellschreiber-like device, possibly printing with a 5 x 7 dot matrix.
As there are 5 pecker pins and there seem to be 7 wires from the keyboard 
to the distributor.
