Just thinking !!!
In case some of the equipment is going south, pretty sure that quite a few users here on the list will pitch in financially to replace what ever needs to be replaced in order to keep this wonderful system alive.
A big "Thank You" to all propeller heads for providing ITTY.

PS: the ST-8000A units are amazing. They run and run. I bet some of the ITTY ones have 100,000 hours on them. The computers are going to wear out first!

Martin,
It is definitely not a cost issue. It is partly about being green, and partly about reducing wear on the equipment (eventually the ST-8000A will wear out). If nobody was using the channel, it would have been a waste to keep it running. If someone is using it, then that’s all I needed to hear. As you wrote: it is for the love and support of our hobby. I have no problem with that.
All,
Thank you for your responses. Since a number of you find it valuable, we will gladly leave the channel running.

I would suggest you need to look at the logs (do you have them?) of who has connected, snapshots during the night will not be very representative!
By its nature this service can only be used sporadically as we are running historic machines with limited supplies of paper, so personally I may use it occasionally when I am in the mood. Clearly I cannot run it continuously as it would wear out the machine and run me out of paper!
I can understand that this may not "pay" looking at it from a commercial point of view, and if that is a problem then we may have to lose the service. If its not always available it will get used even less.
But I would like to think that it can continue for the love and support of our hobby and machines! It certainly is needed and used although probably not as much as your home service.
No I have never attempted to join the "Telex" network you refer to, its very hard to do and manage, and I have heard others say its hard to join it even if you want. Personally I would not be interested in that, so I hope Greenwich ITTY will continue.

Actually, I'm copying the European channel at least twice a week for an hour or two each session - and always enjoy it.

Is anyone using the ITTY Europe channel? Every time I take a look it seems to have no listeners. It seems a shame to leave it powered up for no users. I could shut it down and then power it on upon request if someone has a need for it in the future.
Thoughts?
