Update on the rescue.  I did end up with it after all & fetched it home today.  Looks to be in decent shape but needs cleaning, of course.  I see a few small things missing like some keytops & thumbscrews but that's pretty good for just the price of the gas to go get it.  So, despite a few kerfluffles, success.  Thank you, Doug and Paul (W2TTY)!

Well, I guess it's "rescued" but not by me.  Turns out it was Ms Thomas' parents who actually had it & they're giving it to someone else tomorrow.  What he'll do with, I know not.  Apparently she never told them I was wanting it.  Pfeh.
