Continuing my survey.... to recap, the two most popular RTTY contest
loggers are Writelog and N1MM+. The RTTY contest community was last
surveyed in 2015 and you can see the results here (scroll down for the
logger numbers):
https://www.rttycontesting.com/lagniappe/2015-may-survey-results/
Back then they were still in transition between N1MM and N1MM+, but by now
I would expect that N1MM+ is by far the dominant logger.
When I asked the Writelog folks, they informed me that they always send a
full CRLF, but a hardware modem might change that behavior and they of
course can't control that (which will also be the case for any logger.)
I just got answers from the N1MM+ folks, and as the doctor might say "Ach!
I see vat your problem ist!"
N1MM+ has two macros for messages called {ENTER} and {ENTERLF}, and you
guessed it, the first one only sends CR, and that is the one people tend to
use.
>From that point it depends on what they are using for a modem. If they use
the 2tone modem, when it sees a CR it send CRLF, and when it sees an LF it
just drops it. They couldn't say what MMTTY (the other popular software
modem) did exactly but I strongly suspect MMTTY simply sends what it is
given. Smoking gun there...
The good news is that the developers are active and (without me even asking
for it) they agreed to fix this in the build released this week - meaning
that both macros will now send a full CRLF.
So, as people upgrade their N1MM+, barring any further difficulty or side
effects from this fix, you should see things get better.
