[GreenKeys] OT: Mechanical Adding Machines

A few years back, I restored a Burroughs - what a nightmare that was to put it back together. It had seven rows and seven columns - in other words 49 buttons, 49 shafts, 49 springs and 98 levers/connectors/holders. The challenge is that you have to put all pieces back together at the same time. After several attempts, I made a jig out of 1/4 plywood - that worked very sweet.

The other calculator I have is a Brunsviga midget (traveling salesman version). This is a super slick machine. I was lucky, nothing broken or missing - just a good cleaning and she was back in business.

I looked online for hobby group's and repair manual, but couldn't find any. That was about 10 years ago - maybe different story now.

Make sure you take lots and lots of pics. If you think you have enough pics, make several more from different angles.

I wish you good luck and lots of fun with the restoration project.

Subject: [GreenKeys] OT: Mechanical Adding Machines

Given this group's attraction for mechanical engineering marvels, I wanted to put feelers out and see if there was anyone on the list that also collects/restores vintage adding machines and mechanical calculators.

I've recently picked up a full-keyboard Monroe and could use a few pointers on adjustment/repair. Does anyone have any good groups or resources to recommend?

Thanks,
Cory
