Hah!!!!!
I remember that machine!!
Came from the estate of a Mr. Larry Parks, a little known but
technically brilliant telephone equipment measurements engineer who
passed away maybe three or four years ago.
Larry was not a licensed ham but was a regular listener of ITTY when it
was still on the air as WC2XPF.
Larry was indeed a smoker. He also had no love for the model 15 pulling
magnet selector, and either rewound or rewired the selectors. He did not
like the holding magnet selectors because they were more difficult to
adjust.
There were three or four model 15s in his estate, mechanically in good
shape save for the cobbled selector magnets and the stink of the cigarettes.
I helped the family dispose of all of the teletype gear, and there was
much of it.
He also had the most complete collection of the ARC-5 military Command
Set Radios. There were pieces and accessories that were unbeknown to
some very die-hard ARC-5 fanatics.
That ARC-5 collection is now in the hands of the Seattle Telephone
Museum. It was on display since Larry's demise but has recently been
moved to the warehouse where all of the museum giveaways are being
stored prior to dispersal. The museum was particularly interested in the
ARC-5 collection because Western Electric produced a considerable
quantity of ARC-5 components, and if some gadget had "Western Electric"
stamped or otherwise attached to it, they wanted it.
I think Sarah has the best info of what they are going to do with it,
and she is on a trip to California at this time, so she will have to be
the bearer of whatever might happen to Larry's Display.
It was well-appointed in a custom wooden display arrangement, and best
of all, IT ALL WORKED!!
