HI Paul -
Yeah, that was the tradeoff. I figured if the pads were gonna get soaked with something, mineral spirits are petroleum-based, so, at least what was left in there would be chemically similar to the oil I soaked 'em with later. Any remaining water-based degreaser would tend to repel any new lubricant... I suppose the best solution would be to bake the unit to dry it before lubricating. Theoretically either water or petroleum based degreasers would evaporate. This is the method used by people who wash their "classic" Tektronix 'scopes. A friend of mine converted an old fridge into a temperature-controlled oven for that purpose... If you're single, you could put that in the back yard next to your bbq and your degreasing tank/large ultrasonic cleaner! ;-)

I was concerned that I'd soak the felt washers (15 and 33) and oil cups (on the 15) and I'd have no good way to dry them out.
This was my concern as well. I can get the water dried, but degreaser in felt pads which are designed to hold oil - well that worries me a bit. Is this an unnecessary worry?
