My home improvement store was out of Simple Green - so, I purchased a small bottle of purple ZEP degreaser to clean up a paper tape holder (the center ball bearing froze). Used that little bit Simple Green I had left and mixed it with ZEP. After 30 min soaking, the black paint came right off the metal.
What a bummer, but here is your new and inexpensive paint stripper.
